Open to people of Armenian origin anywhere in the world, with no residency requirement. The case turns on proving origin through your own, a parent’s, or a grandparent’s records, and on the chain of documents connecting you to that ancestor.

Residence-based

For foreign nationals who have lawfully lived in Armenia for the qualifying period. We assess whether your residence history and status meet the legal test before you commit time to the pathway.

Do I qualify for Armenian citizenship through descent?
If you have an Armenian parent or grandparent, you likely qualify under the descent pathway, which has no residency requirement. Whether the case is ready depends on the records that prove origin and the chain linking you to that ancestor. A lawyer can confirm your position in a first assessment.
Do I need to live in Armenia to qualify?
Not for the descent or restoration pathways, which can be handled from abroad. The residence-based and marriage pathways do require a qualifying period in Armenia. We tell you which applies to you before you spend time on it.
Can I keep my current citizenship?
Armenia recognizes dual and multiple citizenship, so you generally keep your existing nationality. Whether your home country also allows it is a separate question under that country’s law, and we flag where it matters.
What records prove Armenian origin?
Origin is usually shown through civil records of an Armenian ancestor and the documents linking you to them, sometimes supported by church records. We identify which documents your specific case needs and how to make foreign records acceptable.
My family records are incomplete. Can you still help?
