Armenia's Ministry of Justice is considering cutting the time required to get Armenian citizenship from 6 months to 3 months.
The ministry notes that Armenians who file for citizenship abroad should be able to get their citizenship documents at the diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Republic of Armenia in foreign countries.
According to the ministry, 20,000 citizenship applications, approved by the president, are in the Police Passport and Visa Department waiting for the applicants. But, as a result of financial, personal, or other reasons, these applicants are not able to arrive in Armenia and pick up their passports.
The ministry also suggests not to suspend Armenian citizenship because of the obligations that have not been fulfilled, as it violates the requirements of the Constitution.
