En un coup d'oeil

  • Armenia’s e-visa is issued at evisa.mfa.am in two products only: 21-day single entry (AMD 3,000 / ~$8) and 120-day single entry (AMD 15,000 / ~$39)
  • Processing: up to 3 working days. There is no expedited option
  • Extension: up to 60 extra days at AMD 500 (~$1.30) per day, decided within 2 working days
  • Citizens of Egypt, Iraq and India must add travel health insurance plus one of two supporting-document packages
  • Since 16 June 2026 the invitation-only nationality list is repealed, so nationals of the six formerly listed states can apply through the portal. The Government has stated it intends to re-adopt the list after October 2026
  • 1 July 2026 to 1 July 2027: residents of 111 listed countries holding a valid residence document from the US, EU/Schengen, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Oman enter visa-free. UK residence documents do not qualify for this exemption

Qu'est-ce que le système de visa électronique arménien ?

Armenia’s electronic visa costs AMD 3,000 (~$8) for 21 days or AMD 15,000 (~$39) for 120 days, is decided within 3 working days, and is applied for entirely online at evisa.mfa.am without visiting an Armenian embassy. The portal is run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Both e-visa products are single entry. The approved visa arrives by email as a PDF, which you print and present at the border with your passport. Border officers verify it electronically.

Multiple-entry and transit visas exist in Armenia’s consular fee schedule, but the e-visa portal does not issue them. Only the 21-day and 120-day single-entry products are available online.

Qui a besoin d'un visa électronique pour l'Arménie ?

Armenia sorts arrivals into three routes. Your passport, and in some cases your residence documents, decide which one applies.

Entrée sans visa : most European states, the United States, Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, the UAE and Kuwait. Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Oman were added as a group by Government Decision 610-N with effect from 1 July 2025. Qatar’s exemption is separate and dates from 2017. Under Article 7 of the Law on Aliens, visa-exempt entrants may stay a maximum of 180 days in any 365-day period.

Visa à l'arrivée: available to nationals of Canada, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Mexico, Thailand, Turkey and others, and to holders of a valid visa or residence permit from the US, EU/Schengen, UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Russia or Canada. For the six GCC states, only a residence card qualifies; a GCC visa alone does not.

Visa électronique : the online route for everyone else. Eligibility is defined negatively in Government Decision 1268-N: the e-visa is open to citizens of any state not on the list of states whose nationals need an invitation. Citizens of Egypt, Iraq and India can apply, subject to the extra conditions set out below.

The invitation list is currently repealed. Government Decision 643-N, adopted 14 May 2026 and in force from 16 June 2026, repealed the invitation-only list. That list named 57 states, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Syria. With no list in force, the negative test in Decision 1268-N excludes nobody, and the portal’s eligibility checker now accepts those nationalities.

This is temporary and the Government has said so in writing. The repeal was a facilitation measure tied to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity COP 17 conference in Yerevan from 18 to 30 October 2026, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs proposed re-adopting regulations of the same content immediately after the conference ends. No re-adopting decision had been published as of August 2026, and no guidance has been issued on how an application filed during the open window will be treated if the list returns before you travel. If your nationality was on the repealed list, check the position again before you book.

The invitation route itself still operates in parallel through consular.e-gov.am at AMD 5,000, with individual invitations handled by the Migration and Citizenship Service. Ethnic Armenians and the spouse, parent, child or sibling of an Armenian citizen are exempt from the invitation requirement.

E-visa types, fees and validity

Fees are fixed in Armenian drams by Government Decision 1268-N. USD figures below use 1 USD ≈ 395 AMD.

Multiple entry, 1 year AMD 40,000 ~ $ 103 Conformément aux conditions de visa No, consular application
Transit, single AMD 10,000 ~ $ 26 Transit seulement Non
Transit, multiple AMD 18,000 ~ $ 47 Transit seulement Non

Extensions: an e-visa can be extended by up to 60 additional days at AMD 500 (~$1.30) per day, with a decision issued within 2 working days. Extensions are filed online through the e-visa system. On the filing window, our reading of the operative Armenian text of Decision 1268-N is that the application may be filed no more than 15 working days before the visa expires, so the window opens in the final 15 working days. Firm guidance previously stated the opposite direction and is under review, so file as early inside that final window as you can.

Exonérations de frais : minors under 18 and family members of Armenian citizens pay nothing. The exemption sits in the Law on State Duty and is not affected by the fee revision scheduled for 1 January 2027.

Durée du séjour: the 180-day ceiling in Article 7 of the Law on Aliens governs visa-exempt entrants. If you hold an e-visa or an ordinary visa, your permitted stay is the validity of that visa plus any extension granted, and the 180-day figure does not apply to you.

Processus de demande étape par étape

Step 1. Check eligibility. Ouvrez evisa.mfa.am and select your nationality in the eligibility checker.

Step 2. Start the application. Enter your email address and click the confirmation link the portal sends you.

Step 3. Complete the form. You will be asked for personal details, passport data, travel dates, purpose of visit, your address and phone number in Armenia, and your employer and position.

Step 4. Upload documents. A colour scan of your passport biographical page, valid at least 3 months beyond your planned departure and carrying 1 to 2 blank pages, and a 35×45 mm passport photo on a white background, front-facing and free of shadows. Egyptian, Iraqi and Indian applicants upload more, as set out below.

Step 5. Pay. The state fee is paid online by card and is non-refundable whatever the outcome.

Step 6. Track and receive. The portal issues an Application ID. Keep it. A decision follows within 3 working days and an approved e-visa arrives by email as a PDF.

Step 7. At the border. Present the printed e-visa and your passport at Zvartnots Airport or a land crossing.

Apply at least a week before you travel, and do not book non-refundable flights before approval lands.

How to check your e-visa status

The official status checker at evisa.mfa.am takes your Application ID and nothing else. You cannot look up an application by passport number on the official portal. Third-party visa services advertise passport-number lookups; those are not the MFA system and they cannot read the MFA database. If you have lost your Application ID, search your inbox for the portal’s confirmation email, which is the only place it is recorded.

The checker returns one of four states:

  • In Process or Pending: the application is with the reviewing officer and inside the 3-working-day window.
  • Approuvé: the e-visa PDF has been sent to the email address on the application.
  • Rejeté: the application was refused. The fee is not returned.
  • Inconnu: the Application ID was not recognised, usually a typing error.

If the status has not moved past In Process after 3 working days, write to the MFA consular department quoting the Application ID. The published escalation procedure beyond that first enquiry has not been located in the regulations.

Conditional e-visa requirements: Egypt, Iraq and India

Since November 2024, citizens of Egypt, Iraq and India face extra conditions under Point 1.4 of Government Decision 1268-N. The group has not changed since it was introduced; a May 2025 amendment only renumbered cross-references. There is no separate Indian decree, despite reports of one.

Base requirement, mandatory in every case: valid travel or health insurance covering your stay in Armenia.

On top of the insurance you must satisfy one of two paths.

Path A, a qualifying visa or residence permit: from the US, the EU or Schengen area, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Russia or Canada. For the six GCC states the qualifying document is a residence card. A GCC visa does not count.

Path B, a supporting-document package: a return flight ticket, an invitation letter from an Armenian entity or individual, proof of sufficient funds by bank statement, and travel insurance. All four must be submitted together.

Ethnic Armenians and the spouse, parent, child or sibling of an Armenian citizen are exempt from the invitation letter under Path B.

Visa exemption for residents of 111 countries, to 1 July 2027

Government Decision 932-N, adopted 25 June 2026 and in force from 1 July 2026, extends Armenia’s temporary residence-based visa exemption to 1 July 2027. It runs in the line of Decisions 610-N and 1984-N before it. The annex lists exactly 111 states, down from 113 in the previous version; Sudan and Yemen were the two removed.

A national of a listed state enters Armenia without a visa if they hold a residence document, valid for at least 6 more months at the moment of entry, issued by the United States, an EU or Schengen state, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Oman. The United Kingdom is absent from that list of issuers. A UK residence card qualifies you for visa on arrival under the separate border-visa rules.

Two limits catch travellers out. The qualifying document is residence status, so a visa issued by one of those jurisdictions does not open the route. And the exemption is checked at the moment of entry, so a residence card that expires while you are in the air will not be accepted on landing.

This is a visa exemption in law, not a visa on arrival, which means no visa is issued and no fee is charged at the border. Stay is capped at 180 days in any 365-day period under Article 7 of the Law on Aliens. If you qualify, you can skip the e-visa entirely while the exemption runs.

From e-visa to residence permit

Enregistrement de l'entreprise : registering a company or sole proprietorship can qualify you for a permis de séjour temporaire, and the process usually runs 30 to 45 days. See our guide to enregistrement d'entreprise en Arménie.

Emploi: an Armenian employer can sponsor a permis de séjour pour travail.

Digital nomad route: De l'Arménie programme nomade numérique gives remote workers a temporary residence permit while they work for a foreign employer.

You can normally file a residence permit application from inside Armenia during a valid legal stay, without exiting first, provided the application is submitted before that stay expires. Overstaying with no pending application carries a fine of AMD 50,000 to 100,000 (~$130 to $260). Our guide to Pénalités pour dépassement de la durée de séjour autorisée en Arménie sets out how those are assessed.

erreurs courantes et raisons de rejet

Photo problems. The most frequent cause of delay. The photo must be 35×45 mm on a plain white background, front-facing, without shadows or blur, with the face filling the frame. Selfies, cropped group photos and coloured backgrounds are refused.

Validité du passeport. At least 3 months beyond your planned departure from Armenia, with 1 to 2 blank pages. A passport short of that is refused automatically.

Name or data errors. One wrong digit in a passport number or a misspelled name triggers a refusal. Check every field against the passport itself before you submit.

Incomplete conditional documents. Egyptian, Iraqi and Indian applicants who omit any part of the Path B package are refused. All four documents go in together.

Échecs de paiement. Use a major international card and confirm your bank permits online cross-border transactions.

Previous overstay or deportation. Unpaid overstay fines from an earlier visit can block a new application, and a previous deportation carries a 3-year entry ban. Clear anything outstanding before you reapply.

What changes from November 2026

Armenia’s parliament amended the Law on Foreigners in January 2026, with most provisions taking effect on 1 November 2026. The headline items are a replacement electronic entry-visa system, a new work entry visa, biometric residence cards collected in person in Armenia, and a revised fee schedule from 1 January 2027.

Two cautions apply to anyone planning around that date. The amending law leaves the new work visa’s code and issuance rules to a Government regulation that had not been adopted as of 22 August 2026, so no work-visa code should be treated as real yet. And the work-visa provisions are tied to the introduction of the new electronic entry-visa system, which is a separate event with its own commissioning date that has not been announced. The arrival of 1 November 2026 does not by itself make the work-visa framework operational.

E-visas issued and applications filed before 1 November 2026 remain valid and continue to be processed under the current rules.

Foire aux questions

Combien coûte un visa électronique pour l'Arménie ?
A 21-day single-entry e-visa costs AMD 3,000 (~$8). A 120-day single-entry e-visa costs AMD 15,000 (~$39). The fee is paid online during the application and is not refunded if the application is refused. Minors under 18 and family members of Armenian citizens are exempt.
Can I check my Armenia e-visa status with my passport number?
No. The official checker at evisa.mfa.am accepts only the Application ID issued when you submit. Commercial visa sites that offer passport-number lookups have no access to the MFA database. The Application ID appears in the portal’s confirmation email.
Combien de temps prend le traitement d'un visa électronique pour l'Arménie ?
Up to 3 working days, and there is no expedited option. Apply at least a week before you travel so there is room to correct a document problem.
Puis-je prolonger mon visa électronique arménien ?
Yes, by up to 60 additional days at AMD 500 (~$1.30) per day, filed online through the e-visa system and decided within 2 working days. On the filing window, the operative text of Government Decision 1268-N reads as no more than 15 working days before expiry, so the window opens in the final 15 working days. Firm guidance previously stated the opposite direction and is under review.
Les citoyens indiens ont-ils besoin d'un visa pour l'Arménie ?
Yes, unless an exemption applies. Indian citizens apply for an e-visa with travel health insurance plus either a qualifying visa or residence permit from the US, EU, UK and the other listed states, or the full Path B package. India is also among the 111 states in the residence-based exemption running to 1 July 2027, so an Indian national holding a qualifying residence document from the US, the EU or Schengen, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Oman enters visa-free for up to 180 days in any 365-day period. There is no separate Indian 90-day decree.
Can I get a multiple-entry or transit visa through the e-visa portal?
No. The portal issues only the 21-day and 120-day single-entry visas. Multiple-entry visas at AMD 20,000 for 6 months and AMD 40,000 for 1 year go through an Armenian embassy or consulate. Transit visas cost AMD 10,000 single and AMD 18,000 multiple and may be issued by the border authorities or the Migration and Citizenship Service as well as by a consulate.
My nationality used to need an invitation letter. Can I use the e-visa now?
At present the portal accepts you. Government Decision 643-N repealed the invitation-only list of 57 states with effect from 16 June 2026, and the eligibility checker now returns those nationalities as eligible. The Government has stated it intends to re-adopt regulations of the same content after the COP 17 conference ends on 30 October 2026, and nothing has been published about how applications filed during the open window will be treated if the list returns first. Check the position again shortly before you travel.
Does a UK residence permit let me enter Armenia visa-free?
Not under the 111-country exemption. The list of qualifying issuers in Government Decision 932-N covers the United States, EU and Schengen states, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Oman, and omits the United Kingdom. A UK visa or residence permit does qualify you for a visa on arrival at the border, which is a different route with its own fee.
Que se passe-t-il si mon visa électronique est refusé ?
You can reapply once the cause is corrected, and the fee is payable again on each application. A refusal on document grounds does not by itself affect a later visa or residence permit application. Where the refusal touched security or a prior immigration violation, expect closer scrutiny next time.
Puis-je demander un permis de séjour pendant que je suis titulaire d'un visa électronique ?
Usually yes. You can file for a temporary residence permit while legally present on an e-visa, without exiting Armenia first, as long as the application goes in before your legal stay expires. The common routes are business registration, employer sponsorship, the digital nomad program and family-based applications. See our overview of options de permis de séjour.
