More Than 1,000 Applicants for Georgia Visa/Residency Used Fraudulent Documents
The State Security Service (SSS) of Georgia identified up to 1,200 people, who attempted to obtain visa or residency status in Georgia based on fraudulent documents, the SSS stated in its 2018 report to the Parliament. The SSS worked closely with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to deport these people from the country, or to bring administrative or criminal charges against them. Based on operative information, 139 foreign citizens were not allowed entry to the country.
In 2018, the Counter-Intelligence Department of the SSS launched 21 criminal cases and charged 48 persons.
